Renovation of Weinbergstrasse with new water pipeline and partial new construction/repair of sewer
The work is planned to be carried out in four construction phases – see attached plan.
Before the start of construction work, an on-site appointment with all project participants will be held in each section with all property owners and residents to clarify the exact procedure.
Weinbergstraße Renovation
The road construction work is now complete with the joint sealing work.
Currently, only the adjustments of the land areas are taking place.
The road construction work is mostly complete; only joint sealing work is required here.
Burger Construction is currently busy adjusting the private access roads and courtyard areas, and this will take about another 3-4 weeks.
Currently and in CW16, all necessary work required prior to asphalt paving is being carried out, e.g., subgrade preparation for sidewalks and roads, setting built-in components such as valves and manholes to height, etc.
The asphalt work is scheduled for CW 17 starting from 04/22/2024.
Afterwards, only remaining work and site grading are pending; the completion of the construction work can be expected by the beginning of May.
– the intersection area of Storchstraße and Frühlingstraße was provisionally paved with an asphalt base course for the winter because another trench will be required here in the spring.
– currently, spot openings on the sewer pipe are being carried out in construction phase 3 in order to prepare the new building connection pipes.
- construction phase 2 has been completed up to house no. 23, including the asphalt surface course, except for remaining work and adjustments
- on Monday, the asphalt base layer will be installed in the Storchstraße / Frühlingstraße intersection area. This will be done up to the upper edge of the road – after the winter, the intersection area will be milled and receive a new asphalt surface course.
- otherwise, civil engineering work will continue in construction phase 3
In the meantime, the footpath in construction phase 2 has been completed and the asphalt base layer has been installed in the street.
Today on Friday, the asphalt surface course is being installed in construction section 2 – work will continue until the road is finished. The road will be opened to traffic on Monday.
In the Storchstraße / Frühlingsstraße intersection area, a water separation manhole is being installed in parallel, and the trenches for cable and drainage pipes are being excavated in construction phase 3.
Construction status Construction phase 2 :
Work in construction phase 3 will resume in about 2 weeks.
The edge restraints of the walkway (curb with a single row of pavers, or just a single row on the property side) have been installed up to approx. property house no. 30, except for the recesses for street inlets, lighting poles, etc.
Currently, the frost protection layer of the sidewalk is being constructed and the property accesses are being graveled.
Within just under 2 ½ days, the additional crew installed the curb with a single row of stones up to house number 15, and the rear single row of stones up to house number 15.
Work on house connections, line connections, preparations for street drains, and foundations for street lamps is currently ongoing.
Furthermore, the curb alignment and height are being staked out in parallel and the subgrade is being prepared accordingly, so that an additional crew can begin setting the edge restraints in the course of the week.
The asphalt base course for construction phase 2 is scheduled for October 30, 2023.
Work on the main sewer is currently at house number 30 and will be completed next week.
Next, the sewer house connections will be tied into the new pipe.
The relocation of the main sewer line is located at house number 26.
Work on the new main sewer line is currently at house no. 18.
The sewer work is currently at house number 14.
In the 1st construction phase, remaining work, joint cutting and grouting, as well as cleaning work are still being carried out.
In the 2nd construction phase, work on the main sewer is taking place at Weinbergstraße no. 8, while cable and drainage work is being carried out in parallel.
In construction phase 1, the asphalt surface was installed yesterday; now „only“ a few remaining tasks such as joints, property adjustments, cleaning, etc. are necessary here.
Local residents can already access their properties, and the public traffic will be cleared in the 23rd calendar week.
Next, sewer work in construction phase 2 will resume in parallel starting May 30, 2023; currently, this work is still taking place in front of the property at Weinbergstraße 6.
In construction phase 2, work on the sewer pipe is currently in front of the houses Weinbergstraße 6/8.
In construction phase 1, road construction work is running in parallel, with asphalt paving scheduled for calendar week 21.
In construction phase 1 (Frühlingsstraße), road construction is in full swing. The goal here is to pave the asphalt before the Pentecost holidays.
At the beginning of construction phase 2, the new sewer pipe is currently being laid in front of Weinbergstraße 4/6.
– sewer work is currently underway in parallel in front of the properties Frühlingstraße 10/12 and Frühlingstraße 4.
– today the new water pipe will be connected to the existing one, and during the course of the week the service connections for the properties house numbers 14/16/18 on Frühlingstraße will also be done. If everything goes according to plan, the work on the water pipe would thus be completed this week
– work has also already begun on the new sewer pipe, and work is currently taking place in front of the properties at Frühlingstraße 6/10
Today, the two water service connections for houses 44 and 46 will still be installed.
Starting next week, the spur line to Frühlingstraße 14/16 will be constructed, and sewer and road construction work for the first phase of construction will already begin.
Today, the water connection for the property at Weinbergstraße 27 is being installed.
If the weather cooperates, the further plan is as follows:
- CW 8: Completion of the water service connections up to the end of construction
- CW 9/10: Constructing the water branch line to building 16/18 and reconnecting the water supply
- starting CW 10: Beginning of sewer and road construction in the 1st construction phase
Burger Construction is currently working on the new water house connections for properties No. 13 and 15.
Assuming appropriate weather conditions, we expect the work on the water pipe to be completed in 3 weeks at the latest.
At the Weinbergstraße construction project, work has been suspended for the time being due to the weather. Depending on the weather conditions, a winter break is planned here until at least January 9, 2023.
Before the onset of winter, the asphalt base layer could still be installed on Friday.
In construction phase 4, the road curbs including drainage channels are being installed and the crushed stone subbase in the road is being prepared; the asphalt base course is scheduled to be paved next week.
In the 4th construction phase, work on the sewer and water pipes is currently being completed, the kerbs are being set, and the sub-base gravel layer is being prepared in the street. In about 2 weeks, the asphalt base course will then be laid in the street, and the sidewalk and marginal areas will be provisionally constructed.
Work on the shared trench for water, sewer, electricity, lighting, telecommunications, and fiber optics continues to be driven forward toward the end of construction.
The work on the common trench for water, sewage, electricity, lighting, telecommunications, and fiber optics has meanwhile passed house no. 52a and is being pushed further in the direction of the end of construction.
We are currently at house number 52a with the joint trench for water, sewer, electricity, lighting, telecom, and fiber optics.
Furthermore, we would like to appeal once again to / ask the residents to park their cars (at least partially) on the sidewalk. This would significantly improve passage for other residents and construction vehicles. We will inform the traffic enforcement service accordingly!
Work on the main water and fiber optic lines has now passed house no. 48.
From the existing manhole, a wider trench—also known as a stepped trench—is now being created, because the new sewer pipe will also be laid starting from this point.
Work on the new main water pipe, including the preliminary laying of the fiber optic cable, has now reached the area of house numbers 42/44.
Currently, work is being done in front of building nos. 28/30.
The construction company has informed that no work is possible this week because the entire crew is out sick.
It is currently assumed that work can resume on Monday, August 1, 2022.
However, the appointment for the resident information meeting on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, is definitely to be kept.
The main water pipeline in Weinbergstraße has been laid up to house no. 16; next week the next section up to house nos. 20/22 will follow.
In early August, the local information evening for the 3rd and 4th construction phases will already be able to take place.
The water pipe up to house no. 8 has been laid. In the coming week, the section up to approximately the height of house no. 16 will be constructed.
Information meeting for residents of the 2nd construction phase
The 2nd construction phase will begin on Monday, July 11, 2022. According to those in charge, the section from house numbers 2 to 30 is scheduled to be completed by mid-August. Construction work will be carried out in sections of 20 to 30 meters at a time. Regarding waste disposal, it has been agreed with team-orange and the Knettenbrech & Gurdulic company that they will be able to drive through Weinbergstraße on collection days. Residents are kindly asked to place their bins out as usual by 6:00 a.m. Parking is permitted on one side, but not directly in the construction area and subject to construction site signage. A so-called jour fixe takes place every Friday at 9:00 a.m., which residents are welcome to attend to clarify any questions or similar issues. Of course, residents can also approach site manager Marius Geis on site at any time. The new sewer and water pipes will be laid by the municipality up to the property boundaries. Owners of houses located in the renovation area are asked to consider whether they want to renew their house drainage connections on private property. If this is desired, the owners must independently hire a company. If the installation of fiber optics is desired, this must be requested from Telekom by the respective owner.
Work on the main water pipe is progressing well. Earlier than expected, the transition to the second construction phase can begin seamlessly in the course of next week.
The next on-site information evening is scheduled for Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 5:00 PM. A corresponding resident notification (see PDF under „Description of the Project“) has been distributed to the residents of the 2nd construction phase.
Start of first construction phase
At the end of May, the excavators moved in on Weinbergstraße. The renovation is beginning. The company Burger Bau has already set up the construction site and started with the necessary preparations. Now, those responsible invited the press to a photo opportunity. The construction committee of the market town council had drawn up a list of streets in need of repair. At the very top of the priority list was Weinbergstraße. Here, three major pipe bursts had occurred in a short period of time. According to the Köhl engineering office, which carried out the planning, the street exhibits many longitudinal and transverse cracks, settlements, spalling, and damaged patch areas, which are due to a subgrade that is not sufficiently load-bearing.
In addition to renewing the road surface and reinforcing the road structure, the sewer system is to be repaired and the sewer service connections are to be renewed. The old plastic water pipes will be replaced, as will the service connections. In addition, empty conduits for fiber-optic internet are to be laid. The estimated construction costs for the renovation of Weinbergstraße and a section of Frühlingstraße amount to approx. 2.3 million euros.
At the end of May, work on the first construction phase began. The street above Storchstraße up to the connecting road to Ziegeleistraße has already been excavated and work has started.
Overall, the measure is divided into four construction phases:
1. BA: from Frühlingstraße 20 to Frühlingstraße 2
2nd construction phase: from Weinbergstr. 2 to Weinbergstr. 30
3rd construction phase: from Weinbergstr. 32 to Weinbergstr. 48
4th construction phase: from von Weinbergstr. 48 to the end of construction
The new water pipeline is scheduled to be laid later this year. Starting from the first construction phase, the new sewer and road construction work will be carried out again in 2023. As things stand now, the schedule provides for the following construction zones:
Water pipeline 1st construction phase: 05/30–08/05/2022
Water pipe 2nd construction phase: 07/25–09/16/2022
Water pipe 3rd construction phase: 09/19–11/11/2022
Water pipe 4th construction phase: Nov 14 – Dec 13, 2022
Here, the present construction schedule serves merely as a „guideline.“ Approximately two weeks before the start of a new construction phase, the residents concerned will also be invited to an on-site meeting where the further procedure will be discussed.
During the installation of the water pipes, the new fiber optic cable is also being laid at the same time.
The officials ask residents of Weinbergstraße to park on the sidewalk side so that emergency and construction vehicles can pass through the street unhindered.
