Partnership/Jumelage

My name is Bernhard Weidner; I am the mayor of the municipality of Rimpar and I would be happy to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the town twinning with my colleague from Languidic and the citizens of our partner municipality. I already practice the French language diligently, but I could use more practice. See you soon, I hope.

We are Annette Göpfert, Rainer Scheuchenpflug, and Harald Schmid from the town-twinning committee (www.pk-rimpar.de), which supports the municipality of Rimpar within the framework of the twinning partnership and organizes citizen exchanges. We very much hope to be able to see our friends from Languidic again soon.

I am Bettina Bötsch; as the city council representative for town twinning, I would be very pleased if we could celebrate the 25th anniversary next year with our colleagues from Languidic.

The city partnership with the Breton municipality of Languidic (https://www.languidic.fr/) has existed since 1997. Initial contacts between the towns were established as early as 1965 through sports exchange programs: the table tennis departments and later the football departments of the local clubs built a bond between the communities through regular mutual visits, which ultimately led to the signing of the official town twinning in 1997.

Languidic is a rural municipality with approximately 8,000 inhabitants in the Morbihan department. It belongs to the Lorient agglomeration. The municipal territory lies on the left bank of the Blavet; with an area of 109 km², it is one of the largest municipalities by area in the department.

The twentieth anniversary of the town twinning could be duly celebrated in Rimpar in 2017 and in Languidic in 2018; however, due to the travel restrictions during the corona crisis, no reciprocal citizen visits could take place in 2020 and 2021. The Rimpar municipal council made a clear commitment to the town twinning at its meeting on September 21, 2021, and is currently endeavoring, with the participation of the twinning committee (https://www.pk-rimpar.de/to breathe new life into the long-standing Franco-German partnership.
